Longer run-times, longer cycle-life and shorter recharge times secure top award.

International battery specialists Triathlon Battery Solutions swept to victory at the recent UKMHA Awards for Excellence, collecting the coveted Archie for Innovation Ancillary Product.

The jury was impressed by the enhanced lead acid technology that combines the economy of conventional lead acid with the convenience and non-stop availability of rapid, opportunity charging normally associated with lithium-ion.

“QUASAR harnesses ground-breaking technology to achieve up to 25% greater run-time than traditional lead acid batteries and cuts recharge times by 50% — significantly reducing running costs and capital investment in spare batteries and chargers,” explains Tom Burgess, Managing Director of Triathlon Battery Solutions UK. “In operational terms those longer run times typically translate into an additional shift.”

Revolutionary nanotube technology is a game-changer

The secret lies in revolutionary carbon nanotube technology that delivers faster charging, greater thermal operating ranges and higher charge acceptance for opportunity charging. Uniquely, QUASAR actually cools during charge and when working — preventing the heat build-up that destroys conventional batteries.

“QUASAR is the obvious choice in the move from diesel to electric because of its capacity to operate in clean indoor environments as well as prolonged shifts outdoors… even in extreme temperatures,” says Tom. “It delivers high performance in extreme temperatures and provides up to 50 percent longer run times at cold temperatures compared with a standard lead acid battery.”

What’s more, according to the manufacturers, although it occupies the same footprint as a standard lead acid battery, it delivers far higher output, eliminating the problem of power collapse on ramps, in hostile environments and in heavy-duty cycles.

As a result, it is particularly at home in demanding applications such as ground support, VNA, cold stores, multi-shift operations and manufacturing.

Receiving the award, Tom says: “Winning the Archie is a huge accolade. The competition is always extremely fierce, especially in the category of Innovation. The jury is made up of experienced individuals with a wealth of industry knowledge so they certainly know their stuff.

“With QUASAR the customer benefits from unrivalled performance allied to exceptionally low whole-life operating costs when compared with all other fuel and energy sources.”
